JEE Main New Changes Introduced:
In 2017, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has introduced some new changes in the pattern of JEE Mains. Here are the highlights:
- Slot Booking: From the year 2018, students will be able to book their slot for the online mode examination.
- No weightage will be given to 12th class marks for calculating All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Main. No verification will be required for 12th class roll number.
- In order to qualify for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, candidates must have at least 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) in higher secondary examination or must be in top 20 percentile in class 12th examination conducted by respective boards.
- Moreover, candidates should have Aadhaar Card Number to fill the application form. Check here for more details of Requirement of Aadhaar Card.
- Candidates from Meghalaya, J & K and Assam are excluded from this provision. Such candidates have to enter passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. identity number to get examination centre in these states only.
JEE Main Application Form 2018
All the aspirants must read the information brochure carefully before filling the online application form of JEE Main 2018 to get details about how to apply, application fee & payment mode. The details regarding JEE Main application form are given below:
- Candidates have to fill the JEE Main application form via online mode only.
- No printed copy will be provided to apply for JEE Main.
- Applications has been started from 1st December 2017.
- To apply for JEE Main, students should have Aadhaar Number/Aadhaar Enrollment Number/Registration Number which will be provided by facilitation center.
- In addition to filling personal & academic details, candidates also have to upload scanned images of photograph and signature in prescribed specifications.
- Candidates can download the acknowledgement page as the proof of successful submission of application form.

Application Fee:
Application fee of JEE Mains 2018 will depend upon the gender of candidate, category and exam mode. Candidates can check the application fee from the below table:

- Payment of fee can be done either through credit card/debit card or e-challan.
- GST will also be applicable.
- Candidates opting e-challan are required to make the payment in Syndicate/ICICI/Canara Bank in cash.
JEE Main Application Form Correction
- Corrections will be permitted in uploaded images (signature and photograph).
- JEE Main Correction window will also open for correction in application form details like change in exam mode from PBT to CBT, city of examination, change in paper-2 to paper-1.
- Candidate can make changes only in the selected fields.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for appearing JEE Main 2018 is given below:
Age Criteria:
- Date of Birth: Candidates those born on or after 1st October 1993 are eligible for writing the JEE Main examination.
- Relaxation: 5 years relaxation shall be provided in the upper age limit of SC/ST & PWD candidates (i.e. DOB falls on or after 1st October 1988).
- Date of Birth will be considered as mentioned in secondary education board certificate.
Qualification Criteria:
- Qualifying Exam: It is must for the candidates to pass the 12th examination/qualifying examination with 5 subjects to be eligible for JEE Main 2018.
- Subjects: The qualifying examination must be passed/appearing with five subjects. Candidates must have physics & mathematics as compulsory subjects.
- No Minimum Marks: There is no minimum marks requirement in 12th examination for writing the JEE Main exam. However, candidates have to secure the passing marks.
- Passing Year: Those who have appeared and passed the higher secondary examination in 2016 and 2017 are also eligible to apply. Moreover, candidates appearing the final examination of 12th in 2018 can also fill the JEE Main application form.
- In case if candidate appeared the 12th examination in 2015 but not passed in 2015, passed in 2016 are also not eligible.
- Diploma Holders: Diploma holders may also apply for JEE Main 2018 but only eligible for admission to IITs. In other words, Diploma holders will be eligible for JEE Main so that they can further apply for JEE Advanced but not eligible for admission on the basis of JEE Main scores.
Number of Attempts:
Total 3 attempts will be given for clearing the JEE Main. Attempts will be counted from the year 2017 onwards. JEE Advanced can be attempted maximum 2 times in consecutive years.
Eligibility For Admission in IITs, NITs, CFTIs:
Percentage Marks: To be eligible for admission in IITs, NITs, CFTIs, candidates should have obtained 75% marks in 12th examination or must be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th examination of respective boards. The qualifying marks for SC/ST will be 65%.
JEE Main 2018 Exam Pattern
Here, we are describing the JEE Main Exam Pattern 2018. It provides details about number of questions, subjects covered, marking scheme, etc. As JEE Main is conducted in two different papers. Check the exam structure separately for both the papers:
For JEE Main Paper-1:
- Course: Paper-1 is conducted for admission to B.E./B.Tech courses.
- Exam Mode: The exam mode for paper 1 will be offline (PBT) as well as online (CBT). Candidates can opt any one of the modes as per their suitability.
- Subjects: The paper-1 will consist of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.
- Number of Questions: 30 questions will be asked from each subject with total of 90 questions comprising of 360 marks.
- Type of Questions: Only objective type questions will be asked in Paper-1.
- Language: For all exam cities, the question paper medium choice will be English & Hindi(except exam centre cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli where choices for question paper will be English, Hindi and Gujarati). The choice for question paper should be exercised while filling up the application form.
- Exam Duration: The time duration will be 3 hours.
- Marking Scheme: Candidates will be provided with +4 marks for each correct answer.
- Negative Marking: In case of wrong answer, one mark will be deducted.
For JEE Main Paper-2:
- Course: Paper-2 is conducted for admission to B.Arch/B.Planning courses.
- Exam Mode: The exam mode for this paper will be offline (PBT) mode.
- Number of Questions: 30 questions will be asked in Mathematics (Part-1), 50 questions in aptitude test (Part-2) and 2 questions in drawing comprising of total 390 marks.
- Type of Questions: The Mathematics and Aptitude test section will contain objective type questions. Drawing test will be subjective.
- Language: For all exam cities, the question paper medium choice will be English & Hindi(except exam centre cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli where choices for question paper will be English, Hindi and Gujarati). The choice for question paper should be exercised while filling up the application form.
- Exam Duration: The time duration will be 3 hours.
- Marking Scheme: Candidates will be provided with +4 marks for each correct answer.
- Negative Marking: In case of wrong answer, one mark will be deducted.

JEE Main 2018 Syllabus
JEE Main 2018 syllabus provides the details about topics and chapters that may asked in JEE Main paper-1 and paper-2 examination. Both the papers are for different courses, therefore, syllabus is also different for both. Question: Is Aadhaar Card mandatory for filling the application form?
Answer: Yes. You are required to enter the Aadhaar card number while filling the application form.
Question: How can Assam, J&K and Meghalaya candidates apply, having no aadhaar card?
Answer: Candidates who have passed/appearing the class 12th examination from Assam, J&K and Meghalaya states have to enter passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. Identity number. Such candidates have to select the exam city centre in these states only.
Question: How can OCI/PIO/NRI candidates apply without aadhaar card?
Answer: These candidates are required to enter passport details.
Question: Will the correction facility be provided in changing the exam centres?
Answer: Yes, candidates can change their exam centres during correction period.
Question: Is the application form acceptable with photograph not having name and date written on it?
Answer: In case uploaded photograph does not have name and date, the form will not be rejected and no correction will be required.
Question: Are diploma candidate eligible for JEE Main 2018?
Answer: Yes, diploma candidates can apply for JEE Main 2018 but only to fulfill the eligibility for JEE Advanced 2018. Diploma holders will not be eligible for admission to NITs and CFTIs through JEE Main channel.
Question: I have 60% marks in 12th examination? Am I eligible or I have to re-appear the 12th examination for getting 75% marks?
Answer: You are eligible. 75% criteria is for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs.
Question: Is thumb impression required while filling JEE Mains 2018 application form?
Answer: No, thumb impression is not needed in JEE Mains 2018 application form.
Question: My name in aadhaar card is not exactly similar or not in same pattern as in school records. Which name I have to enter? Will it create problem later on?
Answer: Such candidate should submit a correction request to aadhaar centre and apply for JEE Main by entering 14 digits Aadhaar Enrollment ID (including slash) printed on the slip issued by aadhaar centre after submitting updation request.
Question: Whether candidates appeared for Paper-2 will be eligible for admission to B.Arch in IITs?
Answer: No, such candidates will be eligible for admission to NITs/SPAs and other CFTIs where B.Arch is available.
Question: I've passed 12th in March 2015, Am I eligible?
Answer: No, you are not eligible.
Question: Can NIOS candidates apply?
Answer: Yes. Candidates passed/appearing class 12th from NIOS should select the state of eligibility according to the state in which the study centre is located.

JEE Main Admit Card 2018
- After submitting the application form, candidates start searching the admit card. JEE Main 2018 admit card will be issued in the second week of March 2018.
- CBSE will release the admit card through online mode.
- The board will also provide the facility to book slot for the online mode examination.
- Admit card will contain exam schedule, exam centre details, candidate’s roll number, etc.

JEE Main Answer Key
CBSE will publish the answer key & images of response sheets (OMR) of paper-1 and paper-2 during 24th – 27th April 2018. Candidates can cross check their answers with the official answer key to know the expected marks. Those who are not satisfied with the answers may challenge the answer key by paying Rs. 1000/- per question.
JEE Main Result 2018
- Result of JEE Main (paper 1) will be declared on 30th April 2018 through online mode.
- JEE Main 2018 result indicates actual scores and rank secured in entrance examination.
- All India Rank (AIR) for paper 2 will be published on 31st May 2018.
- On the basis of JEE Main result, students will also get idea about whether they are eligible for appearing JEE Advanced or not.
- All India rank (AIR) will be considered for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, SFTIs and others.
JEE Main Cut-Off
- In order to be eligible for JEE Advanced and for admission to top colleges, students have to secure cut-off marks.
- JEE Main 2018 cut-off will be announced after the completion of exam. Meanwhile, students can check the previous years cut-off marks.
- In the academic year 2016-2017, JEE Main cut-off is as follows:
- Gen category – 105
- OBC – 70

JEE Mains Counselling 2018
- JoSAA/CSAB are the authorities which conduct the centralized counselling for admission to NITs/IITs/IIITs and CFTIs.
- Admission will be offered to the candidates based on AIR and choices filled by them.
- To get seats, it is mandatory for the candidates to participate in counselling and seat allocation process.
- There are huge number of colleges in every state that also offer admission through JEE Main. To get admission in these colleges, students have to apply separately in state couselling.
